Open almost any archive, and make smaller ones than ZIP.
What it does
7-Zip opens ZIP, RAR, 7z, TAR, ISO and dozens of other archive formats, and creates ZIP, TAR and its own 7z format, which usually comes out smaller than ZIP. Right-click any file to compress or extract it.
It is small, fast and has been free since 1999.

Good to know
- On Windows 11, 7-Zip's menu sits under Show more options. NanaZip, a 7-Zip fork, puts it in the main right-click menu.
- Windows 11 can now open 7z and RAR files by itself; 7-Zip still handles more formats and gives you control over compression.
